So as some of you will know, the annual MTV Video Music Awards took place a week ago on Sunday August 28th, [or for us Australians, late Monday morning] at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, honouring the best music videos from the past year. I decided to do a post on the red carpet fashion because I think nearly everyone looked amazing!
There's no denying Selena Gomez looked incredible in her two dresses. She's seen on the left in a black lacy Julien MacDonald gown. The dramatic hi-low hem, the sulty strategic sheer paneling, and that plunging neckline are all to die for.
She then changed it up for the show presenting she did with celebrity ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner. Selena slinked into a silver metallic Jenny Packham mini dress with a more modest neckline than the first, and she swapped out the Brian Atwood gold pumps for a strappy, nude pair.
I am a big fan of the beautiful Miley Cyrus, so i think she looked absolutely gorgeous as always. She sported a floor-length floral and animal print blue and black Roberto Cavalli gown, with a sexy touch of her back showing. I also loved her sleek, simple updo. She finished off her look with stunning Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Azzedine Alaia shoes.
The Jersey Shore girls were looking very glam! This year, JWOWW wore an amazing cleavage baring, 70's inspired silver sequin Jovani dress with diamond embellishment. Christian Dior was responsible for her shoes that added a dollop of glitz down to her feet, and she was draped in Alan Friedman's stunning collection of diamonds for accessories.
Snooks went glamazon in an Ema Savahl black and orange sleeveless cocktail dress with a gold overlay that kinda looked like antlers. She borrowed this baby from http://www.lendingluxury.com/, a designer dress rental site. She and Deena wore matching gold glitter pumps too!
Beyonce, what can we say. She arrived glowing in a fiery orange, drapey, stunning, floor length, one shouldered wrap frock by Lanvin. One of the more dressed up looks. And hidden beneath the layered fabric was a beautiful surprise - she and Jay-Z are expecting their first child, and what better way to make the announcement! I loved her effortless side-swept hair, too.
Her performance later on literally gave me goosebumps. She completely belted it out, even though she's a baby mama! She wore a killer purple sequin Dolce & Gabbana blazer and black pants during her "Love On Top" performance. And at the end, she ripped open her jacket and rubbed her belly for all to see.
Bey took home the Best Choreography award.
Britney arrived a little more understated than most expected, showing off her toned physique in a sequinned black Moschino playsuit with sheer overlay detail, a low-slung belt, and platform patent leather black peep-toe boots by Gina. Britney took home the awards for Best Pop Video and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She really is so much more than what the public perception makes of her.
The ever-curvalicious, newlywed Kim Kardashian showed up to the first VMAs she's ever attended in a floor-length silver sequinned Kaufman Franco frock with a bare back and plunging neckline, straight from her honeymoon. She matched it with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Christian Louboutin heels.
As much as I love Kim K, i think she should stick to wearing a bra for the future.
It seems Katy Perry took a page out of Lady Gaga's book with a few prepared wardrobe changes for the night. She wore not one, not two, but three looks at the VMAs, although that is only half the number of outfits Gaga wore at the 2009 awards.
The Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects winner channelled a Polynesian beauty queen for her red carpet look, matching her new pink locks with an aqua, neon-trimmed, cut-out, sequinned, beaded Versace mini dress, with strappy neon pink heels, decorative flowers in her hair and a gigantic matching aqua parasol [not featured in the above photo].
Time for the next outfit change for presenting, wearing a sophisticated purple lace gown by Tom Ford.
Last outfit change, she was covered head-to-toe in Christian Dior with a yellow cube on her head, straight from Dior's Fall 2011 collection. I am also frothing over her lovely colour blocked heels in this outfit, wouldn't mind getting my hands on them!
The fabulous Nicki Minaj really showed her bravery, confidence and all-round epicness in this playful ensemble. This outfit is way harajuku and Japanese couture, from the Tsimori Chisato tights, right down to the Shojono Tomo surgical mask! The Best Hip Hop Video winner really brightened the show up with her metallic purple dress, lacy little skirt, thigh-high socks over star-print tights and delicious pink and yellow swirled hair.
You might recognise Ashley Rickards from TV shows such as Awkward and One Tree Hill. I didn't know her until her outfit caught my eye at the awards. The 19 year old actress stunned in a gathered olive green midi-length BCBG dress with a large statement collar and beaded detail. She finished her look with a clean updo, classic patent nude pumps and a gorgeous cat-eye.
Wow I just realised how much i wrote on this post... oh well hope you enjoy it Xx
